Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas Demo

Regardless of your opinion regarding action movies back in the 1980s, Die Hard has managed to remain an icon of the genre, thanks to the outrageous events that unfold as the story progresses, the intriguing villain and the lovable main character, who's always ready to put his life in danger in order to save everyone else from a crew of merciless terrorists, without even wearing any shoes.

Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas is a video game series that aims to bring back some of the atmosphere portrayed in the movies, as well as provide you with some new adventures that can be experienced by playing with John McClane himself. The game also tries to mix three genres together in the same release, which is quite the feat, considering all the different mechanics they have to perfect in order to make the idea feasible and the game playable.

As far as the story is concerned, not a lot of work went into the plot itself, nor the other characters that are part of the action and have something to say in the overall script. However, that was never the focus of the movie franchise either, so you can definitely appreciate the faithfulness of the game and enjoy yet another tale about German terrorists who escape from prison and take a bunch of hostages.

The three genres mentioned earlier are also used to advance the story, to some extent, since the events unfolding on the screen must keep up with the pace of the gameplay as well. Hence, the third-person shooter phase evolves as you might expect, with John shooting his way through a steady stream of terrorists. You can also enjoy a slightly more reflex-based gameplay, in the portion that requires you to use your mouse in order to quickly shoot a bunch of enemies.

Lastly, there is also the driving sequence, which involves a car chase through the Nevada desert, in an attempt to catch the stragglers who thought they can escape John McClane's wrath. Obviously, you should not expect too much from the game, especially since the gameplay is rather unrefined and there are many design mistakes that can cause you to stop playing at any point.

Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas does manage to revive the spirit of the blockbuster in some way, although it could have used a lot of improvements when it comes to the mechanics. However, the driving sequence is quite intense and there is very little time to observe all the flaws most of the time, as long as you are a fan of John McClane and you are bent on bringing the terrorists down.
