Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse Demo

The idea of zombies does not necessarily involve rotten humans wandering aimlessly in search of brains. In fact, there are many different variations on the theme, and it can sometimes be a much better idea to mix things up a bit. As such, you shouldn’t be surprised at any kind of spinoff on the subject anymore, especially after everything we’ve seen so far.
Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse is an action-adventure game with survival elements and a bit of sandbox added for taste as well, which emulates a few other games out on the market right now. Hence, besides the fact that you have to survive a constant onslaught of zombies coming at you from all directions, it is also possible to craft items and build things to defend your position when running is not an option.
The zombies in this game are actually made of wood, as is the main character. Speaking of which, you play as Lathe, a young hero who finds himself in the woods when a zombie outbreak happens. He’s not alone, on the other hand, since he is accompanied by a giant made entirely out of rock, who comes in handy when you need to deal with large hordes that cannot be stopped with regular weapons.
As mentioned before, the game encompasses some sandbox elements, including an open world and the ability to use resources in order to build stuff. Granted, the gimmick is not as complicated as it may be in Minecraft, but it’s something that allows you to have a different experience every time. The game is far from complete as of right now, so things are bound to change for the better until the product is released.
Speaking of which, there are some other issues that need to be addressed as well. One of the most annoying elements is the camera angle and the controls for it, because you can barely keep up with what’s happening on the screen, and you cannot really control it too well. The graphics are nice, on the other hand, although optimization is lackluster as of right now, given the fact that the framerates are sometimes ludicrous even if not much is happening on the screen.
In the end, Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse has a bright future ahead of it, as long as the developers keep working on the project and improving the areas that are lacking. Hence, if you enjoy survival games and you ache for a bit of zombie action, this may very well satisfy your cravings soon enough.
