Fantasy worlds do not really need to concern themselves with logic when it comes to the background story, the characters or the events that unfold over the course of the plot. This is one of the reasons because of which the genre has always appealed to people, especially now when technology allows them to expose their ideas in a more visual manner.

Help a crocodile save his friends

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is an action-adventure game in which you are invited to be a part of one such fantastical story, as well as play your role in the story. Moreover, thanks to the third-person perspective and the relatively open world to explore as you go along, the adventure can be different for each individual, depending on how you choose to approach the levels and advance through the campaign.

As far as the background story is concerned, it all starts when a pack of Gobbos, which are small and rather helpless creatures, adopt a baby crocodile and raise it. At one point, a villain by the name of Baron Dante invades the Gobbos village and takes a few prisoners, including their Gobbos king. Naturally, Croc must go after him and rescue the poor creatures, as well as defeat the baron and his demons once and for all.

Collect crystals and defeat various foes

As it is customary in arcade games, you must collect a certain number of items in order to unlock the next stage. In this case, these items happen to be crystals, some of which also heal your missing hitpoints and stack up into your inventory in case you are already at full health. Thus, whenever you happen to get hurt and you have crystals on you, you are automatically healed and you can continue on unhindered.

At the time of its release, the game made quite an impression with the revolutionary 3D graphics engine, as well as the nice character modeling and the lively animations. Naturally, it may not look too well right now, but it is still surprising to see a game as old as this one that features open-world exploration and fully 3D graphics, not to mention the exquisite special effects.

A riveting adventure through a magical land

In the end, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is definitely worth a try, even if the control scheme might prove to be a bit annoying and difficult to handle. In addition, there are quite a few levels to go through, as well as a mildly interesting story going on behind the scenes that should keep you engaged for a while.
