The modern world is plagued by all sorts of controversies, which is pretty sad when you think about all the other problems we could tackle if we learned how to accept each other. Thus, there’s always some kind of dispute somewhere in the world, and discrimination is still a big thing, in spite of the fact that the majority of the world lives in a democratic environment.

Congresswolf is a text-based role-playing game in which you get to witness discrimination against werewolves, which is at least quite original and intriguing when you think about it. In essence, the game is exactly the same as the rest of the titles designed with this engine, which means that your goal is to pay attention to the story and make choices in order to steer the plot in the desired direction.

Speaking of which, the story puts you in the role of a campaign manager who must help his candidates get into congress in a world where werewolves are a part of society. Unfortunately, they are also discriminated against, and it doesn’t help that they like to bite people and turn them without their will. Hence, your character must watch out for werewolves as well over the course of the story.

The main mission is to help your characters do and say the right things in order to get elected, which implies a lot of marketing on your behalf. Thus, you have to choose the best TV ads, as well as teach them how to behave during a debate. It’s a lot of fun if you like politics, but it can also be quite boring and repetitive if you are not in the mood for a lot of talking and not much action.

In fact, there is no interaction other than the dialogue itself, given the fact that the whole thing is just a text-based adventure. Thus, you have to make do without any visual aid, as well as without a soundtrack to keep you company. On the other hand, you are free to use your own music in the background, at least if it helps you concentrate and doesn’t hurt the atmosphere.

In the end, Congresswolf is clearly not for everyone, but it can provide the right audience with a few hours of fun. Moreover, the freedom of choice makes for great replayability, because the story can be changed in a variety of ways.
