Conflict: Desert Storm is the kind of game that forces you to abandon the old ways and rethink your entire approach when it comes to shooters, because you stand no chance of survival otherwise. Moreover, your team mates are vital if you want to accomplish the career missions, since each one of them can take advantage of a certain special talent.

As previously mentioned, you are in charge of an entire team, rather than of a single character, which gives you the option of creating ambushes and conduct carefully orchestrated infiltrations. Every member of the squad can be manually controlled and they each possess a few unique abilities, such as explosives expertise or heavy gunnery, all of which come into play over the course of the campaign.

The career mode puts you in charge of either the British SAS team or the US Delta Force squad, depending on your preferences. Over the course of the fifteen missions that are part of the campaign, you get to know your squad mates and help them work together in order to stop the terrorist plans once and for all, as well as learn how to coordinate more than one character at once on the battlefield.

One of the most interesting features of the game is the fact that you are allowed to complete the missions in almost any manner you see fit, since you are not really limited by the environment. Although there are some scripted events that cannot be avoided, most of the action is left for you to create and you can easily be the director of some masterful infiltrations, with zero casualties on your part.

Despite the fact that the game was not meant to impress through visual appearance, the landscapes and characters models are detailed enough to be worthy of a mention, especially since the soldiers need to perform a lot of actions on the battlefield and crouch, duck or crawl around most of the time. Plenty of special effects can be distinguished as well, including explosions, smoke and rag doll physics.

In case you do not want to burden yourself with three additional soldiers to control, Conflict: Desert Storm can be easily played in multiplayer as well, since the co-op mode allows you to play throughout the entire campaign along with your friends. Thus, using discipline and coordination, everyone must act as a part of the squad.
