Combat Mission: Shock Force - British Forces Demo

Modern warfare is a tad more complicated than it used to be up until the second World War, because the technological advancements have brought a lot of changes to the battlefield. Weapons are much more effective now and there are a lot of new ways to strike the enemy, including drones, supersonic fighter jets and various other such tactics that one must prepare against.

Combat Mission: Shock Force - British Forces is an expansion pack for the popular wargame developed in the Battlefront studios and it aims to include some British units and campaigns into the overall package. Obviously, the rest of the game is largely the same and there are very few changes when it comes to gameplay and underlying mechanics, which is not exactly sensational news, when you consider the problems with the original release.

However, if you got used to the clunky interface and the various other problems by now, then this add-on should be a blessing and you may be able to only see the good parts about it. As previously mentioned, it includes a variety of British units, including infantry, tanks and a few other vehicles. You can even enjoy the L85A2 rifle, carried by the ground troops during the missions.

To encourage you to make use of the new arsenal, the expansion pack also includes a new campaign and a few scenarios for you to try out, although they are not very different from the rest of battles that were already available. In essence, they still tackle modern conflicts throughout the world, so you’ll be seeing a lot of desert and the Middle East most of the time.

From a technical point of view, not a lot has changed, given the fact that there were no modifications to the graphics engine, or any other functional parts. Naturally, a few bugs were fixed and there are some other minor improvements, but nothing too substantial. Hence, there are still some annoying performance issues with the graphics engine, which might make it difficult to play the game on the highest settings without experiencing framerate drops and similar problems.

In the end, Combat Mission: Shock Force - British Forces is not exactly a game you would want to kill for, but it might be enjoyable if the previous releases in the Shock Force episode adhered to your preferences. Otherwise, you can just try out the previous titles and see what all the fuss is about.
