Cladun X2 is a strange and complex hack and slash game developed by the System Prisma studio and published by NIS America.

A hack and slash game should be a very clear category, and that’s true most of the time. Then, a game like Cladun X2 is released, and the definitions only apply if the broadest sense. The Diablo series is a hack and slash game, for example, and no one is disputing that in any way. We could say that Cladun X2 is the same kind of game, but it’s much more than that.

When it’s difficult to explain in words what’s happening in a game, it can only mean one of two things. It’s either a bad game, with a stupid concept that it doesn’t even merit enough attention, or it’s a good game, and it uses some cool new concepts that can’t be put into words. I am happy to say that Cladun X2 falls very well in the second category.

For the most part, Cladun X2 is a hack and slash game because you do that most of the time. You go around and kill various creatures. If a creature has a too higher level, you run away. It’s not all that complicated. Then the game hits you with the rest, meaning a strange inventory system, various items that you pick up and have no idea what they do, and, of course, the NPC interaction that doesn’t make any sense.

Cladun X2 also has a story, something about being lost in another plane from where there is no exit. It’s a place full of dungeons, and you can only go deeper, without being able to exist.

Since the game is defined as a dungeon crawler, it also means that you will always find different stuff, depending on the playthrough. The players have access to numerous classes and lots of levels of character customization. It’s almost impossible to have two similar characters.

There is so much to do in the game that the developer just limited the demo to five different characters, and nothing more.
