Welcome to City Quest, a game that provides an accurate depiction of how a point and click adventure should be, with modern times setting, of course. In short, play the role of the farmer boy who goes to the city to make something of himself.

Click and point him in the right direction and watch as in less than fifteen minutes, he gets slapped by a woman, deals drugs, watches dogs ‘keep warm’, hands out political flyers, and demands protection money at a local flower store on behalf of the mab. And that’s just for the first night he’s in the city.

City Quest is a pixel graphics oriented game and for those who get around to playing a few of these a month or even a year, you know how important the story is. Well, good news is-a-coming.

City Quest features four major storylines you can have the main character follow and each one distinguishes itself in a clear cut way. You can opt to go the mob way, head into the world of politics, settle for the hobo life, or just be a lady of the night. Not sure what that last one means but I guess since you’re going into Hookyn… hook… er. I hope you got that.

The game is full of gloriously offensive and somewhat distasteful humor, and that’s a big plus. It doesn’t go over the line, and I’m sure worse things have been said on the news and in crappy reality TV shows you can’t stop watching. In City Quest, the dialog is just short of awesome because in almost every instance there’s a good joke or a bad but clever pun. The amount of work that’s put into writing City Quest deserves tons of honest appreciation.

When it comes to playing City Quest, that happens in the way classic point and clicks have done it for years now. You have individual click-issued commands for moving around, observing, chatting, interaction and inventory use. The only thing I can complain about is not having keyboard shortcut for each of the above so things could go a bit smoother.

Other than that, City Quest is an offensive peach of a game. Everything is well-designed, from the environments to the flow of the animations to the conversation options. The game is said to offer over one hundred characters for you to meet. I’ve played MMOs that offered less so, that should tell you something. That fact alone makes the game very appealing.

To end, City Quest is one of the best point and click games I’ve come across lately. That is, from the retro-vibing section. I’m very curios to see what the lady of the night branch means and how it ends. Off I go.
