Broken Bots is a lightning-fast top-down shooter that pitches teams of robots against each other in a fight to the death. It’s a pixel-art online destruction fest that provides several robot types to choose from, special abilities and more.

In Broken Bots things are pretty simple when it comes to what you have to do, meaningly, pick a bot and start blasting everything that moves and doesn’t share your team color. Currently there are six robots to choose from, each one with its stats about firepower, armor and fire rate, which will prove more or less effective in combat.

The latter is for you to decide after you play a few rounds because at first, things will be a bit overwhelming due to the sheer speed at which things happen. Controlling your bot is a cinch, aiming easily done with your mouse and you only need two more keys to use the special abilities you chose. However, things get fun (and temporarily tough) the moment you understand that you have to combine all of those at the same time while dodging roughly 20 projectiles that are coming your way.

Broken Bots is merciless in the beginning and if you’re not the one to rage, you’ll definitely enjoy it. There are no gimmicky mechanics to trip over, just playn’old control your bot, aim and hope to kill. You know, the good stuff.

Broken Bots starts off kind of left footed but after you stick with a bot, get a handle on the controls and experiment with the loadout a bit, the game begins to take shape and you immediately get what Broken Bots is.

It’s meant to be fun and that’s that. And it is, but when all things are good, there comes that time when you want more and although Broken Bots offers several robots, skills and abilities to use, it might not feel like it’s enough. Although, the game is at the beginning of the road and if it gets a bit more content and customization possibilities, it’s sure to capture the hearts and wreck the nerves of a lot of people.

To wrap things up, Broken Bots is definitely a winner. Not necessarily a feature but a touch that certainly makes a difference, are the visual effects that come to life when your bot gets damaged and starts to enter the pre-offline mode or when it actually goes haywire. A lot of the time, it’s the little things that make games great and Broken Bots has several of those.
