Belief & Betrayal - Italian Demo
Investigate a strange and suspicious death in this challenging point-and-click adventure game. #Adventure game #Point and click #Solve puzzle #Adventure #Mystery #Puzzle
Point-and-click adventure games may seem rather easy to concoct and put into practice, but the genre is quite difficult to get into, because the standards are very high when it comes to quality. Hence, after jewels like The Longest Journey, The Monkey Island, and many other such great titles, coming up with something to be worth the money and the time is not an easy task.
Belief & Betrayal is more of a detective story and it tries to provide you with the same atmosphere you would experience if you were to watch a movie about detectives, or read a novel on the same subject. However, due to a general lack of polish and the somewhat boring nature of the subject, the game ends up being tedious and annoying instead, which is not something you want to experience when you want to have some fun.
As far as the story is concerned, it all starts when a journalist by the name of Jonathan Danter stumbles into a strange murder from about a decade ago, which happens to be linked to another, even bigger mystery. One things leads to another and you are soon investigating the bribe Judas took to sell out Jesus, which is a bit weird and unnecessary at the same time.
When you get down to it, the puzzles and the mysteries are not very exciting and you soon find yourself thinking about something else. The riddles are actually challenging or difficult, but tedious and boring, especially since very few of them are original. In fact, the entire game seems to be a copy of something that already came out a dozen or so times until now.
Fortunately, the visuals are not bad, but not that great either. The pre-rendered environments look good in most regards, although some objects are way too clearly pasted on top of the other objects, which breaks immersion. Even so, the music and the graphics work together to create a decent atmosphere, even if everything crumbles once you touch the mouse and start playing.
When it’s all said and done, Belief & Betrayal is not exactly bad, but it is so basic and cliche it can only be enjoyed by those who have never had contact with the genre before. Thus, everyone who’s well-aware of the classics and what the genre usually can do should keep their distance.
