Batman: Arkham Asylum Demo
Batman is one of the most iconic comic heroes ever created and although he has no superpowers, he can surely make it up with his unmatched detective skills, stealth and awesome gadgets. As the only man who managed to take Superman on and win, Batman surely deserves a game to compliment all his actions, but lets see if the first installment in the franchise manages to live up to its expectations.
The Joker is up to no good once more
The story pictures our hero capturing the Joker who started an assault on Gotham City Hall, and escorting him personally to Arkham Asylum, which also happens to serve as a temporary hold up location for Joker's gang, who got displaced from Blackgate Prison due to a fire.
Unfortunately, Batman's hunch is real and all of a sudden Joker and his assistant Harley Quinn take over the building's security and captures Commissioner Gordon while threatening to detonate lots of bombs hidden in Gotham City if anyone from outside the asylum tries to intervene.
The situation is not surprising for Batman, who'll now have to capture the Joker all by himself in an institution populated by lots of evil villains.
Step into the shoes of the Dark Knight
As Batman, players will get access to an entire arsenal of cool gadgets along his Detective Vision that will allow them to see enemies through walls and solve various puzzles.
Each encounter can be solved either using stealth or engaging in direct combat although the later is not really recommended mostly due to Batman's capabilities of taking his enemies completely by surprise.
Using gadgets such as batarangs, explosive gel, line launcher, or the batclaw, Batman have at his disposal a wide range of possibilities to tackle unaware enemies.
If you're more of an action guy, or the scene doesn't offer any alternative, you can engage in combat using the awesome Freeflow technique which enables you to chain attack, stun, and counter moves to perform massive combos.
Besides numerous thugs, Batman will also have to face various supervillains, such as Bane, Victor Zsasz, Killer Croc, Poyson Ivy, Scarecrow, and of course, the Joker. The scenery is also populated by an incredible amount of riddles (courtesy of the Riddler) that will challenge Batman to find all sorts of solution in order to solve them all.
One of the best superhero games ever made
Batman: Arkham Asylum is incredibly well complemented by the excellent visuals where developer Rocksteady managed to perfectly balance the dark atmosphere of the comic book universe with an exceptional dose of realism.
The game manages to create a strong bond with players from the moment they make their first steps through this dark world and thanks to the simplicity and effectiveness of the combat system, you're in for one hell of a ride.
Add to that a compelling story combined with the amazing voice acting and you have the perfect recipe for success.
