Bang Bang Racing Demo

Bang Bang Racing is a top-down racing game from Digital Reality Software & Playbox and published by Kalypso Media Digital.

There aren’t too many top-down racing games out there, but there are two good reasons for that. First of all, ever since the introductions of 3D there wasn’t really a need to have racing games in 2D environments. Secondly, the control of cars is cumbersome and not all that intuitive. Even if it’s done very well, like it Bang Bang Racing, it still feels weird and takes some adjustment time.

Bang Bang Racing is not a bad game, but the developers from Digital Reality Software & Playbox have been hoping that the novelty feeling that’s coming from this title and the quirky artwork and graphics will be enough. It remains to be seen if that’s the case, but it looks like the community likes it, for the most part.

If you take a look at the screenshots, you’ll probably like what you’re seeing, but the reality is a little bit different. It’s fun to play, at least at first, but it’s annoying when you notice how the AI drives and just how aggressive or stupid it can be.

The demo level only features a single map and two cars, so it’s not really all the relevant, but from what we have gathered, there aren’t all that many levels in the full game. Also, there are different cars available, and they are supposed to be different, but they aren’t, or at least not noticeably.

The cars themselves take weird corners, and the camera has a huge latency. If you swerve very fast, the camera has problems keeping up, which in turn is a huge problem. Also, the cars are supposed to get damaged, but that’s also not happening.

Some parts of the track have various problems, like oil or sand, which affect the way the car is controlled, but only for a short period. Also, the AI is sometimes very good at driving, and other times it managed to get stuck in corners after it slid on oil.

For the most part, Bang Bang Racing is a fun and entertaining game, but that feeling won't last too long.
