One of the most desirable superpowers humans want is the ability to control time, because that would open up a lot of possibilities. Granted, time itself is not exactly a straight line anyway, so going back and forth on it only makes sense in our three-dimensional world. Hence, although the laws of physics allow for time travel, it’s unlikely it’s going to happen as we see in the movies.
Backstreets of the Mind is an intriguing hidden object game in which you play the role of a man who finds out that he can go back in time and change things in order to make his life better. In short, your task is to click on the requested objects after you find them, so the game is not very original, nor is it very challenging. On the other hand, there are a few other puzzles to consider as well.
The story is actually pretty sad, although not in a very serious way. Thus, the man you play as decides to fix some of the mistakes from his youth, as well as try to make life better for his parents. There’s a lot of fuss about his old home and the places he grew up in, so it might awake something similar in you as well if that’s something you think about often.
The hidden object scenes are pretty engaging, but they get a tad repetitive after a while, especially since the backgrounds do not change as often as they should sometimes. The difficulty level is a bit too low as well in some cases, because most objects are easy to spot. On the other hand, there are a few mini-games in there to break the monotony, which is great if you need a distraction.
The graphics are not bad at all, especially when it comes to the backgrounds and the level of detail in every scene. Granted, most of the scenes are hand-drawn and devoid of any animations, so it’s not much of a technical achievement. Even so, the landscapes are nice enough to make you think, especially when nostalgia enters the picture.
When it’s all said and done, Backstreets of the Mind can certainly keep you busy for a while, even if there’s nothing new in the gameplay department. On the other hand, the story may be too sad for some people, especially if you are going through a tough time.
