Role-playing games are all about making you feel like you are someone else for a while, as well as letting you experience a new world with different rules and laws. Hence, everyone wants to be the hero who saves the world, not to mention having the power to deal with almost any kind of danger or enemy. However, the gameplay must rise to the challenge as well, otherwise it can be difficult to enjoy the story and have fun.
Axys Truthseeker is not your average hack-and-slash title focused on slaying hundreds of demons every other nanosecond. Instead, it tries to teach the players a lesson about forgiveness and the importance of religion, using an interesting story to do so. However, the game itself is a basic third-person action-adventure game with a few RPG elements.
The story talks about a fantasy world called Pacifico Island, which is usually engulfed in beautiful plants that decorate the island everywhere you look. However, for some unknown reason, the pretty flowers have been replaced by ugly and invasive weeds, which even have the capacity to attack people after they grow large enough. Naturally, you play the role of the hero who must save everyone from the invasion of the killer plants.
The gameplay is nothing out of the ordinary it, because although the game recommends itself as an RPG, the mechanics feel a lot more similar to an action-adventure. The combat is in real time, and all you have to do is click the mouse button in order to attack. However, the puzzles you have to solve in between the fights are what bring a bit of diversity to the formula, although, even these can get repetitive sometimes.
As far as the visual quality is concerned, the game looks a bit blocky and unpolished when you take into consideration the year it was released in. On the other hand, it doesn’t look that terrible either, because the character animations are decent and the environments are usually pretty rich and detailed. However, the textures are very low-resolution and the shaders are quite primitive as well.
In the end, it’s worth noting that Axys Truthseeker features a religious message as well, although it’s mostly about forgiveness and how to treat fellow humans. Other than that, the game is not at all bad, although it’s mostly aimed at children and casual gamers.
