Formations:
The current version of Axiomatic is shipping without a proper tutorial for
formations. However, there is an online tutorial showing you how to get the most
out of this important feature:

Combat effectiveness:
If you have played first-person shooters before, combat in Axiomatic will seem
fairly simple at first. However, there are a number of less obvious tactics that
can improve your combat effectiveness.
1) Missiles are fairly powerful, but they are not as fire-and-forget as they seem.
Some factors which influence the chance of a missile hit:
- Firing angle
It is generally best to fire missiles to where the target is moving. While
strafing around your target, you want to fire your missiles on an inside
track, to shorten the amount of correction the missile must make.
However, sometimes it can be effective to fire missiles in a wide arc to
the side of an opponent.
- Firing pattern
When a ship is hit by a missile, you will notice that it is flung away a
reasonable distance. As a result, if you fire missiles quickly one after the
other the first missile may hit but will often throw the target out of the
path of the subsequent missiles.
It is generally better to fire at a more measured pace.
- Target disabling
When you hit a target with any weapon, their dodging effectiveness is
temporarily decreased. This effect varies hugely depending on the type of hit.
You will know when a target is temporarily disabled because it will spin out
of control and will probably stop firing.
Missiles fired at a disabled target have a good chance of hitting.
2) Staying alive will be a challenge at first, especially if you are not used to
the strafe-and-fire style of combat in many first-person shooters. The most
effective way to avoid being hit in Axiomatic is by strafing as fast as you can.
Your strafe pattern should vary depending on your opponent.
In order to dodge incoming fire from a Trifighter, usually simply strafing to
one direction is quite effective.
If you apply this same simple strafe pattern when fighting a Thunderbolt you
will be destroyed quite quickly. The Thunderbolt emits quite a bright glow as
it is about to fire and when you see this you should immediately change your
strafing direction.
3) Advanced
You can generally tell when incoming missiles are going to hit you or not.
If you think you may be hit, it is often worthwhile trying to shoot the missiles
in flight. This is quite possible, and may well save you from a nasty missile
strike.
Your tactics should reflect the ship you are controlling:
With a Trifighter, you will have to use your superior agility and speed to stay
alive. Closing to close range and unleashing a gout of plasma is often the best
strategy.
The Thunderbolt requires a more patient approach. Your available weapons clearly
suit a more long range approach to combat. One subtlety is that managing your
orientation with respect to your enemies is much more important: the
Thunderbolt is much easier to hit from top/bottom than from anywhere else.
Limitations:
- Some people may experience choppy audio, due to a bug in the default WindowsXP sound drivers. Some more detail on this problem, and a couple of solutions can be found at: http://ten-ninjas.com/?q=faq
- If you have any other problems, please report them by email to support@ten-ninjas.com
Unlike mainstream commercial software, if you report a problem with Axiomatic
you will be talking directly to the developer so the chance your problem
will be fixed are higher.
