Although only a handful of people have ever been there, movies, TV shows and movies seem to agree that space is awful and full of monsters that would gladly munch on humans for breakfast. Hence, it’s no wonder that most science fiction productions featuring distant galaxies and planet feature some kind of violent alien species with large teeth.

Assault Android Cactus is a fast-paced shoot ‘em up in which you get to fire about a million laser bullets every second, while being assaulted by a variety of robots bent on destroying you. The entire purpose of the game is to survive the constant onslaught of mechanical killing machines, while picking up devastating power-ups and targeting the high score using huge combos.

As far as the background story is concerned, it all revolves around a space freighter on which the robot workers have somehow risen against their human masters. There’s not a lot of other information you receive along the way, but none is needed anyway, because you won’t have time to think about characters or plotlines while dozens of androids fire their weapons at you.

This is not a game for everyone, because it may appear silly and over-the-top in most cases, but the fans of the genre should hit the jackpot with this one. The gameplay mechanics are excellent and very well implemented, which means that the characters are responsive and intuitive to maneuver around. Not only that, but the plethora of power-ups makes it that much more exciting to keep building the combos to incredibly high numbers.

As far as the technical aspect is concerned, the graphics are not exactly top-of-the-line, but they are good enough to perfectly portray what is happening on the screen. Hence, the 3D models are decent, the special effects should please everyone, while the particle effects are liable to cover the screen most of the time. A powerful soundtrack plays in the background at all times, to make the experience that much more engaging.

In the end, Assault Android Cactus is the type of game that gets your blood rushing and sets your teeth on edge, because there’s not a still second in it. Thus, if you feel the need for something exciting and you do not mind breaking a mouse or two, the title at hand should be at the top of your priority list.
