Armageddon Racers

Armageddon Racers is a game that has racing and zombies, all in the same place. You would think that it’s a winning recipe. You would be wrong.

Ever since Carmageddon put together racing and zombies other developers have tried to follow the same directions. Nobody managed to hit that sweet spot ever since, not even the same developers with their remake. It’s hard to imagine that you can go wrong with a game that has both zombies and racing, but Armageddon Racers is proof that you can.

Some games are so bad that they are good. The original Carmageddon did this better than anyone. It didn’t take itself seriously, and nobody did. Even so, its legacy has been difficult to follow. Driving over zombies seems like the blandest thing to do, and Armageddon Racers does it terribly.

There is no reason to look for excuses. Armageddon Racers is simply put a bad game, and it’s not going to win any medals. It won’t even get invited to the bad games ceremony.

Armageddon Racers features 24 different levels and 18 cars. The only way to experience them is to race through the cities and unlock them all. You’re running against other cars, controlled by the AI, and against the clock. It’s not enough to finish first, you also need to replenish a time meter.

Players get more time when they run over zombies, which in turn makes the car unstable. It’s unstable to begin with, and the controls are terrible, so it’s not much of a change. The AI doesn’t offer any kind of challenge and players will be able to beat it every corner, no matter how many cars it controls.

This is pretty much the extent of the game. The installer is a little bit naughty and has a running ad, and it opens up a new tab in the browser, but the game itself appears to be clear. If you really don’t have anything better to do with your time you can give it a try, otherwise please try to stat away from it.
