Fast-paced platformers are designed to keep you on your toes at all times, which is great if you are up for a challenge and you do not mind having to restart the same level over and over again. Some are trickier than others, while some seem downright impossible, but most should be manageable for almost anyone, provided you do not like to give up easily.

Angel Express [Tokkyu Tenshi] is a runner/platformer combination in which you play the role of a girl who must deliver mail as quickly as possible. It’s a simple formula in theory, but the gameplay is refined and smooth enough to make it feel like something exquisite. Hence, if you enjoy tough levels and a bit of a challenge, this could certainly keep you busy for a few hours.

The whole goal is to keep running and avoid the traps that lie ahead, which is tougher than you think. Whether it’s spikes, deep pits or various nasty enemies, everything has the potential to either slow you down or kill you, at least for a few seconds. On top of that, you also have to watch out for other messengers that can attack you and make your life hell along the way.

To keep you from getting bored, there are other modes to pick from except the classic campaign. Thus, you can try your hand at Time Attack, or challenge the AI to a versus mode to see who gets the most points at the end. You can even enjoy the game with other players using the Online Versus mode, which allows you to connect with people from all over the world.

The game’s graphics are nothing to write home about, but they are not ugly either. The technology used is pretty old and rudimentary, but at least that means that you can run it on almost any computer. The jolly soundtrack should keep you focused on the action at all times, even if it gets repetitive after a while.

All things considered, Angel Express [Tokkyu Tenshi] is a pretty well-rounded game, at least in the gameplay department. Hence, it plays very smoothly and you can use a controller as well, which makes it perfect for those who want to put their skills to the test.
