And So It Was is an indie title that’s shaping up to be a good looking and casually fun-to-play adventure game. It fuses dungeon crawling, RPG and a bit of hack and slash into the mix, all wrapped into a gamer friendly visual shell.

At a first glance, And So It Was doesn’t seem to be that kind of game that poses much of a challenge, and that’s mostly due to the harmless vibe the design puts out.

However, And So It Was uses randomly generated levels to create a decent challenge. Every time you restart the game, and you will restart it a couple of times thanks to permanent death, the dungeon will look different. Not only are the rooms and corridors placed differently, the enemies are changed, and the power-ups you get are also randomized.

At times, it will be easy to get passed the dungeoneers that wish you harm but once you get to the boss that guards the exit, get ready for a good fight.

There are plenty of games like And So It Was but there’s always room for more; especially since they look good and are easy to play. However, And So It Was could use a bit of a boost when it comes to how fast things run.

It’s gameplay speed feels like it’s somewhere between a bit slow and perfect. That tends to matter when there isn’t much else to keep you going. Sure, there are spells to find and various passive enhancements to collect but at times, when you have permanent death to worry about, things need to move faster so you don’t get any trace of boredom in your day.

To wrap it up, And So It Was is by all means a title that can surely go places once it gets more content and some polishing. At this time, it’s nice to play, almost relaxing.
