Alicia Griffith: Lakeside Murder is a hidden object adventure game that allows you to be a part of a mystery and use your detective skills to find the one responsible for a terrible murder. Don’t expect too much in terms of gameplay, on the other hand, since there are no new ideas when it comes to mechanics or the puzzles, even if you can still have a good time solving them.

The story revolves around Alicia Griffith, whose role you play, and who must investigate the strange murder of a crime writer. Hence, the main goal throughout the game is to uncover clues and put them together in order to pinpoint a suspect, although it obviously takes a lot more effort than that. Things get even more challenging when puzzles enter the equation.

Speaking of which, the puzzles put you through a variety of challenges, most of which demand you to find the right patterns and apply them until the riddle has an answer, or until the container/door opens. In hindsight, many of the puzzles feature very similar mechanics, especially if you are a long-time fan of the genre, but it’s easy to get over this aspect if you enjoy the overall atmosphere.

Lastly, the graphics are not too bad either, even if the textures can be a bit disappointing every now and again. It’s obvious that every scene is drawn by hand, on the other hand, since you can observe the level of detail and the way everything blends together. The soundtrack is decent as well, as is the voice acting and the engaging cutscenes that provide you with details on the story.

In the end, Alicia Griffith: Lakeside Murder may not stray too far from the rest of the games in the genre, but that’s perfectly fine in these conditions. Hence, familiar mechanics and simple gameplay are preferable to failed experiments.
