Airship Dragoon

Airship Dragoon is a 3D turn-based, global strategy game that uses squad tactics when it comes to battles. It’s an indie game that takes the action on the once great continent of Pangea and adds a steampunk flavor to it.

In Airship Dragoon you will have to manually select the troops that will take part in each of your campaigns. Members share universal attributes as well as personal ones which make their behavior in combat more unique and unpredictable.

One of the great things about Airship Dragoon is that you will have to micromanage each unit. Choose the weapon, ammo, movement path, stance and more. You get to be in full command of nearly all decisions that are made, the only exceptions being when one of your soldiers chickens out and starts retreating all of a sudden.

Apart from six factions, the game also provides a neat leveling system for your troops. They can start as conscripts and fight their way up to colonel or brigadier, the promotions grant attribute bonuses which consequently make them more efficient in battle.

A really good thing about Airship Dragoon is that the battlefields almost never seem similar, deployment is randomized and the AI is fitted with a large number of tactics it can use on you. This basically means that no two battles will be the same and in turn you don’t get the feeling that ‘this has happened before’, you’ll constantly be faced with devising and improving tactics.

Another interesting feature that the game brings is that you also have to manually equip your troops and this requires you to figure out who takes what weapon and how much ammo as each one has a limit to how much he can carry.

Being a turn-based strategy game with so much micro management, Airship Dragoon requests a decent amount of patience from you. Since the graphics are not all that great and the game is mostly controlled using your mouse, it might seem a bit tedious at first, but when the fighting starts, things escalate rather quickly, in the good way.
