ZEQ2 Lite is an open source project that is mod expandable and uses a ioQuake3 engine to put together an exciting and action packed game where some of your favorite Dragon Ball Z heroes come to life.
Fight as Goku against Goku or Vegeta and more
Leaving aside the elaborate and completely customizable project, ZEQ2 Lite transposes you into the world of DBZ where you can fight for supremacy as Goku, Vegeta, Krillin, Frieza, Nappa, Piccolo, Raditz and Cell. If you’re a Dragon Ball Z fan and that doesn’t spark interest, then you should call your programmer buddy and have him add a few more characters or customize the existing ones since that is possible.
You get to fly around, smash rocks, use the special skills for which the characters are known and yes, as Goku and Vegeta you can transform into super saiyans. What’s great about the entire experience is that everything you know and love, the visuals and the sounds, are exactly how they are in the anime series. They can definitely trigger some flashbacks from some of the great moments in the series.
Join a server with tens of other players and fight to the end
ZEQ2 Lite comes with its own particle system and mechanics inspired from DBZ, which are very well polished and work like a charm. Even on a low performance PC you’re bound to get great visual results, enabling you to focus and enjoy the battles.
As far as controls go, there aren’t as many as you would expect and are in fact quite intuitive. Except for the Jump command, which at times makes you feel like your character has totally lost control of himself, they are all easy to handle and can be fully remapped to fit your style.
Kamehameha and all the rest
To sum things up, ZEQ2 Lite is more than just an open source engine that is modified to bring some of the action from Dragon Ball Z to your computer screen. Apart from mid-air fights, it also provides a gateway for fans to manipulate and enhance the game to new heights.
