Warside

Warside is a fast-paced arena style shooter in which two teams face each other in several types of modes. It features 2D platformer gameplay and a prominent RPG component that makes it a bit more interesting.

At this time, Warside is fresh on the free-to-play market and whether it’s a good or a bad game is still up for discussion. There certainly is a lot of good to speak of and, unfortunately, the bad is also there as well.

On the plus side, the gameplay is fluid, shooting is fun and so it moving around, the RPG side of things is a nice touch although nearly all similar games have it. Visually, the game looks good in terms of design for both the world and characters. The drawback is from the animations.

If I pick a cyborg looking dude I really don’t want him looking like a metal ballerina when jumping up. That little twirl with one foot outward is kind of awkward. And so are the moments when you want your character to grab onto a ledge and he lands hooked into thin air. It gets worse when you have to frantically press the jump key to get him unstuck.

When it comes to polishing, there is a lot of it that’s needed. However, Warside has a really good start to work with. Gameplay is solid as far as shooting goes so what’s left to be done is mostly cosmetic upgrades and updates.

Warside’s combat is simplified to two axes and provides the possibility to move diagonally, meaning it uses pure 2D platformer gameplay. With that in mind, mastering the controls will take you one or two rounds and after that you can focus on learning the best attack angles and how to work together with your team.

There are multiple classes to play, assault, defender, infiltrator and medic, each one with a well designated role in teamfights. A lot of people will pick the guy who can kill the most but having a well balanced team is more important, there are more benefits in winning as a team opposed to getting the most solo kills.

On a closing note, Warside came to life by fusing several gameplay features and game components that have been around for a while now. And yet, it still managed to leave some loose ends for both the gameplay and quality.

It has a good start but if it won’t improve in a short while, it might not make the popular game list. However, it’s something that deserves a shot.
