Unreal Tournament 4

Unreal Tournament, the title that set a new standard for first-person shooters for generations to come. It had the looks, a killer soundtrack and chaotically beautiful fast-paced gameplay. Now, Unreal Tournament 4 (in a way of saying) is slowly but surely coming to fulfillment to once again dominate the FPS scene.

Unreal Tournament 4 looks amazing despite the fact that it’s in very early stages of development. However, since the Unreal titles have always been close to flawless you’ll barely see any issues with this one. It’s total eye candy from start to finish and yes, there are maps that need a lot more work and some of the death animations are awkward but that has nothing to do with the gameplay.

Once you pick up the legendary cool weapons, you’re hooked. If you’ve played the first Unreal Tournament, having the Flak Cannon in your hands will trigger quite the flashback. The gun was wonderful in the first game but here, it looks so good you want to marry it. As do all the weapons. Every single one keeps its original main and secondary fire modes but they've been redesigned to drop jaws to the floor. With any of them, it’s love at first fire.

The same frantic, blood pumping action you’ve come to be addicted to in the ‘99 release is still very much alive now. Killing and being killed are competitive constants in Unreal Tournament 4 and the lightning-fast gameplay is as authentic now as it was then.

The moment you respawn you make five steps and you either kill someone or someone kills you. That’s just how things are in UT and that’s what we love about it. As with every title, Unreal Tournament 4 rocks some pretty sweet graphics and the effects are nowhere near being a disappointment. Everything is eye catching and if you have a decent hardware configuration you can enjoy this gem with its fluid, unhindered gameplay.

There is a lot of work left to be put into the game as the developers want to incorporate a long list of features. One of which is weapon customization. Also, it will take a bit of time until the servers become populated as they should, although, at any given time, three of four maps are packed with players, and you can also play against bots.

On a closing note, Unreal Tournament 4 is fantastic now and it might just be the one we can call perfect. Download, install, play, offer some feedback, be part of the wonderful culture that is Unreal Tournament.
