The aliens will stop from nothing... So far in this competition we've seen aliens dance, shoot, roll balls around and hoverboard. But if there is one thing they seem to like doing more than anything, it's racing!
UFO Racer takes our extra terrestrial little friends onto the open landscape race course as you vs. up to 10 AI opponents zoom about like mad things in your flying saucers. When we say zoom like mad things, we really do mean it. The landscape is unforgiving on your saucer and it's easy to crash yourself into a fountain of sparks and flame.
But there are power-ups to collect and with judicious use of the acceleration and up/down keys you can actually fly the little saucer high into the sky. Not that this will help you win the race, but it's still good fun none the less. Graphical it is fine, the models are well realised and the landscape has enough dips and bumps to make it fun to race on.
The biggest problem however is the total lack of knowing just where the heck to go. Although there is a navigational arrow to follow the corners are so sharp (and undefined) that you spend half of your time looking at the arrow and the other half watching your saucer explode as you plough into yet another hill.
With a more clearly defined track this game could have been something really special because it has all the hallmark features of a decent racer - good AI, smooth collision and very fast top speeds.
