Super Time Surf

Out of all the crazy and creative ideas that game jam sessions deliver, Super Time Surf is by far one of the best. It’s super easy to play and totally immersive thanks to its wonderfully exaggerated coloring and VHS visual style.

Protagonists in games come in all shapes, sizes, forms, races, compositions and so on, but there will always be room for developers to come up with something original. So is the case in Super Time Surf, where the two rivals are twin-headed flamingos that ride hoverboards and shoot lasers out of their beaks.

They also wear sunglasses and bandanas. And if the characters themselves aren’t enough to get your attention, then you should see the kick ass visual theme of the game. Its developers say it’s ‘rad’ and we agree. Also, when you have laser flamingos, the best way to go is full VHS with eye-popping colors.

The gameplay is in complete contradiction with the game’s look. Super Time Surf features standard controls for the hovering birds, but that’s not in any way an issue. They are controlled using the classic key setup and finding the fire key comes intuitively.

Super Time Surf features a rewind time mechanic which allows you to, duh, rewind time to avoid getting hit. It’s a nice little feature that makes a difference since the game can get really intense. As far as audio goes, it’s flawless. There's nothing we can object to.

To wrap it up, Super Time Surf is a super simple game, but it’s excellent. Its visual style, along with the theme and gameplay make it a perfect game to have when you want to kick it with your buddy.
