Super Mario Ice 2

Mario is a character that needs no introduction and Mario game look-alikes are everywhere. Some manage to capture the essence of the game, others just the look, and there are some that fail miserably. This spin on the classic Mario is somewhere in between all of the above.

Super Mario Ice 2 displays nice graphics. They are actually the exact kind you would expect from a game of this type, simple, good looking, relaxing. Mario himself is accurately portrayed with his glorious mustache and his awesome hat and behaves just the same as in the original when he jumps or falls off a platform.

There is no actual story to the game this time, or so it would seem. The world around you is made of ice, there are no more mushroom men or turtles for you to step on. All of them are replaced with new critters and ice geysers that shoot fire.

Super Mario Ice 2 aims to take the action in a new setting for the little man and in doing so, you can expect new challenges when it comes to the layout of the level. Unlike in the original Mario, here you can move to the left side of the screen in order to explore.

You also get a series of caves you can enter at one side and exit at a different one which certainly comes in handy since there are plenty of places you can’t jump to. The latter also being one of the main reasons you might not offer Super Mario Ice 2 more than a half an hour of game time. Some jumps simply seem impossible to make and when you manage them, it’s like you got lucky and stepped on the last pixel at the absolute edge of the platform piece and that’s why it worked.

To sum things up, Super Mario Ice 2 is a good looking game as far as platformers come, but it does seem to lack in terms of gameplay and it might just make you lose interest in it.
