Strike.is: The Game

There are only so many ways one can innovate gameplay concepts in video games, especially since now almost everyone has access to potent graphics engines at little to no cost at all. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t at least make an effort to do things differently, because we are nowhere near the point where there are no original ideas left in the world.

Strike.is: The Game is a top-down shooter in which your goal is to kill the other players before they kill you, and that’s about it. Everything about it is very basic and difficult to enjoy, especially nowadays when there are so many other alternatives out there. Hence, it’s silly to think that anyone would choose it over the hundreds of other free alternatives you can find with a simple search.

To begin with, there are no characters and no actual story, this is a purely multiplayer game. However, you actually play as nameless circles, which is only funny for a few seconds, after which it becomes annoying. Even the environment is a collection of smaller circles thrown together with a few low-resolution textures on top to make it look like diversity.

It’s possible to choose from Free for All, Team Deathmatch, Guild War and Team Fortress when it comes to game modes, but they are all more or less the same, except that some force you to play in a team. However, you are automatically kicked out when you die, which makes you feel like no progress has been made at all. Obviously, it’s frustrating to play for nothing and never get anywhere.

The only slightly interesting thing is that you can pick up different weapons during the game, such as shotguns and snipers. These deal greater damage to the other players, but the whole shooting mechanics are pretty lousy, which kind of mutes this advantage as well. Moreover, the maps are too small sometimes, which means that players spawn around you and kill you before their invincibility aura dissipates.

It’s hard to look at Strike.is: The Game and see something positive, probably because the developers did not try very hard either. Hence, it needs far too much work for this to become a decent game, so you’d better avoid it entirely for now.
