Stellar Wanderer is a game that leaves you stranded with a small crew, in an unknown galaxy. It’s time to explore new planets and hope nothing in particular kills you with one blow.
Stellar Wanderer feels a bit basic and, in fact, it kind of is, but until you get to see everything the game has to offer, it’s going to be quite the little treat. First off, it has tons of humor that you have to uncover through the use of multi-choice scenarios.
For example, you’ll meet a giant pink rabbit, an alien crab, ghost-like creatures and a whole lot more characters. Each one will open up a dialog and depending on your choices, you’ll either have a new crew member, get a good laugh or leave, barely hanging on for dear life. Stellar Wanderer has its fair share of unexpected moments, both good and bad.
In Stellar Wanderer, you have a limited supply of food, torpedoes, fuel and credits, so you need to fend for yourself. Exploring planets is the way to do it, and that’s easy. There are few challenging moments to deal with but encountering space pirates is a different thing.
That’s when the RPG side of the game kicks in. It’s very simple and intentionally bad in design, but it’s fun. You’ll rarely win a fight, but that’s ok. Pirates are tough and getting the cash to buy good gear takes a while.
To end, Stellar Wanderer is a small game in a lot of ways. The visuals, audio, the gameplay, everything is kind of basic, but it’s well-put-together basic, and most importantly, it gets a few good laughs out of you.
