When you arrive at a remote colony on a strange alien world, you find that all of its inhabitants have vanished. There are no obvious indications as to what happened, so you must investigate the homes that have been left behind to uncover the mystery. Somewhere Strange is a very short first-person adventure game that tells the story of this community’s fate. It can be completed in under ten minutes, and it is far from complex, but it is charming in its own way.
As you are teleported to the planet’s surface, you can see a small alien colony that shows no signs of life. All the homes appear to be deserted, and you need to explore each of them to understand what happened to the inhabitants.
There are a number of objects that can be interacted with, and they are recognizable based on the blue glow that surrounds them. You can hear the character’s thoughts on the objects when they are activated, but no other actions can be performed.
It does not take too long to figure out that the answer to the mystery lies in the large bunker, but the only way to unlock it is to find the six consoles scattered throughout the settlement.
The inhabitants themselves seem to be a very diverse group. Some of the houses can only be entered by crouching, presumably due to the homeowners’ small stature, while others require you to hold your breath due to the toxic atmosphere.
Somewhere Strange is an indie game that does not offer too much, but it provides you with a fun adventure that can be completed in just a few minutes.
The graphics and voice acting are adequate, if not impressive, and the game lacks a bit of polish, but you can get through it on a lunch break and still have plenty of time to spare.
What's new in Somewhere Strange 1.0.1:
- Improved audio mixing so door sounds are less obnoxious and teleportation is less painful.
- Fixed some hit boxes that allowed you to clip through the ceiling of the small house.
