Rustbucket Rumble

Rustbucket Rumble is one of the most casual team-based games that you can play. It’s a 2D platformer with co-op combat that features robots and giant robots who must fight for supremacy. It’s all good clean fun with a relaxed mood and fast-paced gameplay.

In Rustbucket Rumble you join a team of three and challenge another. There are several robot types to choose from and each one has a different build and comes with unique abilities and skills. They are designed to offer a different role in combat as well as support but they’re mostly there to provide a bit of variety.

The goal of each round is to gather enough scrap until you’re able to build a giant robot that is capable of destroying the enemy base. Most of the parts you need are obtained from the enemy robots that you blast into malfunction.

Once a member of the opposing force is down, it neatly packs itself in a bin ready for transport to your local recycling plant. However, you need to move fast because the enemy will come back to life in a relatively short time and you’ll have to kill him again to re-bin him.

In terms of controls, a key remapping may be in order because the default ones although ok, might seem counter-intuitive. Other than that, Rustbucket Rumble runs smooth and with no glitches. Combat is fast-paced and delightful.

Team effort actually counts in the game because if you don’t watch each other's back, the other team will run off with your teammates parts. If you don’t play as a unit, the balance of a round shifts really fast and once the other team’s robot is out, there’s very little you can do. More so, it’s that moment when the game feels unbalanced.

On a closing note, Rustbucket Rumble is a nice game. It’s free-to-play, it runs well, it looks good and the gameplay is enjoyable. The only real downside to it is the fact that it’s not all that engaging when it comes to combat.
