Fantasy tales usually feature all sorts of interesting creatures, such as dragons, orcs and the undead. There are many common themes in the genre, although each book or video game tries to bring something new to the formula as well. Necromancy is one of the established concepts by now, since it is featured in most fantasy flicks that touch on the subject of the undead.
Right Click to Necromance is a very simple idea on paper, but you can find yourself playing for a long time in spite of that. In short, you have to battle other armies and resurrect the fallen soldiers in order to incorporate them into your own troops. By continuously doing so, you can handle larger and larger battles, not to mention the fact that there are a few powerful monsters out there as well that are looking for trouble.
There is no story to hold you back either, since you start directly in the heart of the battle. At first, you only have a handful of soldiers under your command, but it is pretty simple to start multiplying them. The trick is to avoid the larger armies, because you can easily die and you’ll have to take it from the top. More and more troops make an appearance along the way, and the soldiers get stronger as well.
Given the fact that the game is not yet complete, there are a couple of mistakes you might stumble into along the way. The movement is very cumbersome, for starters, because the units move slowly and they become disoriented once an obstacle appears in front of them. It’s very difficult to engage all of your soldiers at once, although it doesn’t seem to matter all that much in a confrontation.
It is also worth noting that you cannot resurrect the enemy troops until every last unit from the army you attack is dead. Thus, you are pretty vulnerable if a second group of soldiers attacks you during a battle, at least if you are not strong enough to handle them both. Thankfully, it doesn’t take very long to rebuild, but it’s still a bother that there’s no way to save your progress.
All things considered, Right Click to Necromance may be just a quick experiment, but it is actually tons of fun in the right circumstances. As long as the mechanics are refined and more content is added, this could easily turn into a bestseller.
