Prime Orbit Review by
3.0/5

Prime Orbit is the cumulative work of five students who came together to create a relaxing first-person puzzle platformer. It’s a game that uses mostly primitives for design but features decent looking graphics and nice puzzles to solve.

In Prime Orbit, you play the role of a female astronaut who ends up crashing on an unfamiliar alien planet. Assisted by the ship’s clever AI unit she manages to locate a means of leaving the planet but first she has to get to it.

As a puzzle platformer, you’ll do a lot of jumping from one place to another, all after completing fairly simple tasks. The game’s core mechanic is that of rotating and interacting with objects through the use of simple commands. In certain portions of the game, you can transpose your vision to that of the AI drone and use it to manipulate various objects or platforms.

In doing so you will be able to create bridges, crossways, you can open doors and even jump through portals that grant you safe passage through the alien city.

Prime Orbit lacks in real complexity when it comes to both game design and the puzzles. Albeit some of the latter are somewhat challenging, in most cases you’ll glide through the puzzles. It’s not The Talos Principle but for an indie game, it’s worth playing, especially if you’re into exploring alien worlds and solving puzzles while you’re there.

There is no considerable depth to the story, or great secrets to uncover about the places you pass through. It’s mostly a game about going from one point to another while dealing with some decent puzzles.

One of the nicest touches to the game is the AI’s personality. It, or he, is a witty creation that will not hesitate to tease you when you make a mistake or when you bump into each other.

To wrap it up, Prime Orbit is an OK game if you’re looking for a casual experience in the form of a first-person puzzle platformer. There are plenty of enjoyable moments with it but don’t expect any mind-bending puzzles. Still, it’s worth a shot.
