Picross games can be the right solution for boredom in a variety of situations, especially if you enjoy a good puzzle every now and again. Although the puzzles themselves are never very complex, it can be quite tricky to reach the correct solution sometimes, especially if you do not pay enough attention. There are plenty of picross games on the market, but not all of them are worth your time.
Picross Touch is a puzzle game in which you have to fill tiles in order to obtain a certain model by following the numbers near each row and column. The concept is not at all original, and Picross Touch is actually very poor when it comes to features and interesting gameplay mechanics. On top of that, it also features a few problems that shouldn’t be part of a modern game.
There are many levels to choose from, and they are all split into three different difficulty levels: 5x5, 10x10 and 15x15. You are free to play any of the levels at any time you want, and the game allows you to resume a puzzle from where you left it the last time. You can also see how many you have managed to complete in total, which comes in handy if you like to keep track of your progress.
There’s one big issue that you stumble across as you are solving the puzzles, which is the fact that some of them have multiple solutions, given the arrangement of the tiles. However, the game only recognizes one of these solutions, which means that you have to guess the correct one. Hence, trial and error is not a great feature in a game that technically encourages you to find the solution using logic.
Lastly, the graphics are a bit of a bummer as well, because they are about as simple as they can be. This is not usually a problem, but it gets repetitive and boring when the background remains the same for hours on end. Granted, you can change the color theme if you want, but don’t expect any major improvements. There’s also no soundtrack either, although that can be fixed with a playlist of your own.
When it’s all said and done, Picross Touch is not a bad game, but it doesn’t impress in any regard, and it would appear that it doesn’t make any effort to differentiate itself from the rest of the games in the genre. Hence, it might fail to provide you with a good time if you are used to other, more colorful games.
