OpenGGS

OpenGGS is an attempt to recreate the Amiga classic named The Great Giana Sisters. It’s a 2D platformer that features a similar game structure but comes a bit short when it comes to the design.

As far as retro game recreations go, OpenGGS is far from being accurate. Its graphics are more in the line of basic than they are similar to that of the original. Not that those were complicated to recreate in the first place, but then again there’s that thing called copyright. Which also leads to the absence of the original soundtrack.

You saw the game without a description, you wouldn’t really know where its inspiration came from. That is until you actually open the level editor and see the tilesets.

When it comes to playing the game, OpenGGS will feel different to people. If you’ve played the original or similar games, it will seem familiar but if you haven’t tried any of the classics, then it might be one of the simplest games you have ever played.

Air control is great, and the learning curve is almost nonexistent. It’s very easy to master the game and if you don’t try to be a perfectionist when it comes to finishing each of the levels, OpenGGS will simply fly past you. It’s a nice game if you want a casual experience.

OpenGGS is far from being complete, but work keeps getting done at it. Until it’s complete, it will be a simple fan-made game that aims to keep the legacy alive.
