One Hit KO

With all the martial arts techniques out there, it’s no wonder that it’s difficult to choose one to focus on, at least if you are interested in them. In fact, it kind of depends on what kind of attitude you wish to adopt, because some are more violent than others. Not only that, but some martial arts techniques require more mobility and body training than others, otherwise you are not able to perform the required acrobatics.

One Hit KO is a simple beat ‘em up game in which you have to defend yourself against a horde of enemies, although they all come one by one. Still, they arrive in rapid succession, so it can be very difficult to keep track of everyone, especially since the gameplay mechanics prevent you from doing too many things at once. In fact, you can use only two keys to fight them off.

You can only punch to the left or to the right, and you must do so as precisely and as quickly as possible. The enemies can only be attacked once they enter the special orange area around the main character. This obviously makes the whole thing a lot more difficult, but it also makes it frustrating, mainly because any missed attack means certain death, due to an unforgivingly long animation.

In order to prevent boredom, the game features more than one type of enemy, and each one of them comes with a different attack. However, there are only three in total, so the variety is not as disarming as you might think. One of them is the ninja, and you have to watch out for their incredible speed, and the other one is a fighter that can launch a flying kick from quite the distance.

The difficulty level can be quite frustrating, after a while, and the experience does not get any better along the way. In fact, it feels like you are playing for nothing, because you’ve seen the entire game in the first two minutes. The mechanics are not as fun as they should either, because you cannot combine hits or perform combos, which is a disappointment.

Even if One Hit KO is not very appealing at the moment, it could transform into something a lot better over the years. However, more work and dedication are needed, otherwise it remains a boring beat ‘em up with nothing special about it.
