Offworld

Are you a Ninja or are you a Royal? Pick a side and join the battle between two clans who fight for control over the lands around. Select your ship and fight amongst the floating islands until you’ve defeated all the enemy crafts.

Offworld is a lightweight mid-air brawler in which you get to control one of the multiple ships and use them to fight enemy forces until your faction emerges victorious. The game features a nice looking visual style with an Asian feel and provides third-person ship control so you can really enjoy the ‘battleground’.

Blasting rockets and machine guns at several aircrafts all while dodging enemy fire between small and large floating islands is a blast in Offworld. The game is not as fast-paced as you probably might want it to be, but it’s no stranger to action either.

Audio effects are a bit scarce, and not all that prominent but the soundtrack is excellent and fits perfectly with the theme. However, this is due to the fact that Offworld is still in the works. What started off as an internship project for a handful of people ended up in becoming this great idea for a game.

For a game of so little stature, Offworld challenges the pilot in you by a great deal. You get to choose between three aircraft types, from small to large, each one obviously having its advantages and disadvantages. For example, the Fighter is small, agile but has little health while the Destroyer is large and can pack quite the punch but it’s slow and can be quickly shot down.

However, if you’re good at aiming, the latter will help you take out loads of enemy fighters but if you’re the run 'n' gun type, the faster craft will be your best friend. The controls in Offworld are very responsive and well implemented so mastering the gameplay will be easy, enjoyable even.

Offworld is at its core a very simple concept, which at this time, is very fun to play. It does have its weak points but overall, it’s a neat little game. It’s still in development, so there’s room for improvement and after some of that goes in, Offworld will turn out to be an excellent indie game.
