Not So Flat is a surprisingly cool little game that uses a very creative approach to puzzle solving. In it you play as Tim, a square who ends up lost and confused about what’s going on while making his way home. That’s where you step in. Help him find his way back.
There is a good deal of puzzle games in which one of the main mechanics is the ability to manipulate the perspective. In Not So Flat solving puzzles relies on the same idea but it’s a bit different.
Imagine you have two or more geometrical planes that collide, intersect, or both at the same time, and you must shift them in a certain way so that your character can move about and around certain obstacles. It’s a mechanic that’s really easy to pick up but after just a few levels it gets wonderfully confusing.
In a nutshell, Not So Flat is about finding outside the box solutions for puzzles that exist on the sides of the box or pieces of it. The gameplay is fluid, and the minimalistic design is a treat for those who enjoy this kind of approach.
For a puzzle game, this one is by all means good. It features a refreshing approach, controls are intuitive and the gameplay falls into place as easily as you will fall into the traps. It gets a bit annoying at times but if you’re playing a puzzle game and you don’t feel challenged, then that game is not worth your time. Not So Flat is worth it.
To wrap it up, Not, So Flat is not so bad, not at all. It’s humorous, captivating, easy to play and most important, it’s a tough little puzzle game.
