Midnight Castle

Midnight Castle is a hidden object game that strays a bit from the standard gameplay proceedings of the genre and takes a different approach. This time, puzzles are scarce, and the way you find and use objects is rather repetitive and not that challenging.

Midnight Castle’s design is a very good one, one of the best I’ve seen from this genre. Where there’s voice acting it’s done right, the animations are good, and each room, garden, and dungeon looks great. It’s too bad that this game doesn’t follow the standard gameplay.

Its looks are most of what get your attention and maybe the story, but that unravels at a very slow pace. That’s because in Midnight Castle, most of the time you’ll just be spotting objects from a pile, over and over again.

Midnight Castle is built to monetize from its players but not in a brutal way. In this game most of the time you’ll just be spotting and clicking objects that are randomly placed in a pile. They tend to stand out and are not that hard to find, more so since you’ll do this a lot of the time, it becomes very simple to spot them later on.

The story is told piece by piece as you advance but to do so; you’ll have to complete certain tasks for the characters you encounter. It consists in bringing them specific objects, some repetitive, by completing the ‘pile spot’ challenges. It gets kind of boring after a while, but it is a casual game. Moreover, there are plenty of other things you can do on the side, like play roulette or ship cargo.

To end, Midnight Castle is not something you play for the thrill or the gameplay style. It’s something you have around when you have short breaks from whatever you’re doing and feel the need to click.
