March of War: Face Off is a card game that focuses on real-world warriors and war machines. It features the already over-popular card tactics gameplay in which you place cards on a battlefield, they spawn units and using your tactical thinking, you need to take out the enemy command center.

In March of War: Face Off you have actual soldiers, vehicles, air strikes and other ‘spells’ you can use in combat. It’s nice thing to see the genre stray away from the fantasy world. However, the title doesn’t improve much when it comes to the gameplay if anything at all.

Things remain pretty standard in how you create units, how you asses the battleground and manage tactics. Moreover, the fields are 3x7 tiles, and that doesn’t leave much room for tactical thinking. It does, however, guarantee that battles only last a couple of minutes, which is a good thing. And luckily, these developers have learned from the mistakes of others and have placed a player-turn countdown timer to make sure you don’t wait an eternity for the other player to make a move.

In terms of card variety, there is some but it can take you a whole lot until you get to purchase a new deck. As expected, cards are given to you when you level up but those aren’t always the best, and there’s a bigger issue to address when it comes to how you can progress.

March of War: Face Off is still at the beginning of things, so matchmaking is terrible. However, we’re pretty sure that those who make these kinds of games should have noticed players saying that they’d rather wait to be matched with someone their level and have a fair fight than to face an opponent six levels higher that neutralizes him or her in four moves. So yeah, expect that. On the flipside, there is AI combat.

Even if the game has one or two interesting things to feature, it still feels like a generic product. It lacks any particular charm, and that could result in players sticking around for a few games but not wanting to rise in ranks.

March of War: Face Off is a decent game with a good casual feel and average looks. If you’re looking for a casual experience from a card game, this one is willing to offer it.
