Magic Duels
A trading card game that aims to keep things simple, true to the origins of the genre. #Trading card game #Card duel #Multiplayer CCG #Deck #Card #CCG
Magic Duels, another trading card game that has recently surfaced with the promise that it’s going to be great. However, like with most free to play games of this genre and size, that’s not always the case. You can blame this on several things but let’s start with the good stuff.
From a novice’s point of view, Magic Duels will be easy to play. It has good looking cards, a simple battleground design, and practical gameplay mechanics. For an experienced dueler, this game will seem graphically unpolished and somewhat underdeveloped. Although the image in a card may look beautiful, you can spot the lack for attention to details in, well, the details. It’s never pleasant to see when the cards are the stars of the game. Starting from that, you’ll easily lay eyes on other flaws. However, as a whole, Magic Duels doesn’t look bad, it’s user/ gamer-friendly.
Another plus, when compared to other CCG from its category, Magic Duels features combat that’s somewhere between simple and complex. The battles will feel well-balanced, providing you’re paying with an equally matched opponent.
Just so you know, Magic Duels is built to monetize from its players. It’s no shocker, most of today’s free to play titles do this, but there seems to be a way around it, so you won’t have to spend real money. You can play against the AI for five coins, or duel another player, and get more coins. However, when it comes to the latter, you know how things go. Matchmaking is not always the brightest of features or faulty induced, and you might end up losing a good deal of battles.
Grinding for some coins in AI battles will get you some new cards but don’t be surprised if they won’t do you any good. The scale between fair and pay to win is in favor of p2w.
To end, Magic Duels is best served by people who have never played this kind of game before. Its tutorials are very good, the gameplay is intuitive (and a bit slow), the cards look great, and that’s just about it. For experienced players, it might end up being a waste of time.
