There are all kinds of creepy in this world and a lot of them are depicted in Loa, a stealth horror game in which a little girl is trapped in a house where evil things happen. She must find a way to escape the horrible place, its traps and mind controlled henchmen.

The story starts off with a little girl entering the Horror House attraction in an amusement park, way too late into the night. As she enters, the doors shut behind her and steel bars slide over them, which kind of says ‘You’re not going anywhere’.

This house is actually an amusement park attraction so all the creepy stuff there is meant to be, except for the little boys wearing masks who are capable of black magic. You’ll meet them shortly after entering the house, right after one kills you a couple of times before you figure out how to avoid him.

Being in a house of horrors that’s built for amusement, there is nothing amusing about it. You will stumble around body parts, hear screams from little kids that come from everywhere and soon enough, you’ll find out that they are not just recordings for the show.

Loa is an indie game so don’t expect too much of it when it comes to visuals, mechanics and overall gameplay. As a whole, the game looks good and handles quite well but there are certain moments where you meet some flaws face first. Nonetheless, its horror factor remains efficient all the time.

An interesting mechanic that the game uses is possibility to swap characters between the little girl and a small voodoo doll that somehow ends up helping her. There are several levers to pull, bridges to activate, doors to open and so on, all of which can be done using the little doll. Stealth is crucial in this game and choosing when to act will determine the success of your actions.

On a closing note, Loa is a decent game with plenty of potential. It has enough scare and body parts hanging around to put a frown on your face and a cold chill down your spine. It’s not the best in its genre but it’s worth a try.
