Maybe lots of you nowadays are looking forward to the next AAA game that's about to come out, but older gamers still enjoy playing 8bit or 16bit titles with roguelike mechanics that reminds them about the early days of gaming when graphics didn't matter that much. Although that time is long gone, a few indie developers are still creating such titles, and one of them is KeeperRL.

Inspired by the classic Dungeon Keeper and Dwarf Fortress, KeeperRL offers its players the opportunity to play either as a Keeper or as an Adventurer, providing a new experience from two different perspectives.

Just like old roguelike titles, in KeeperRL you will never play the same level twice because the game's world is randomly created when you start a new game and each level is procedurally generated from ground up.

If you start playing as a Keeper, that game will put you in charge of a few minions that are able to accomplish any task you might throw at them, because no dungeon keeper should move a muscle to build his empire.

From gathering resources to building storage rooms, laboratories, workshops, training rooms, traps and other areas that can help you expand your influence, these little guys will obey every command you'll give them.

One of the differences between regular roguelike RTS games and KeeperRL is that here you are encouraged to get out of your dungeon and lead your troops to defeat the enemy.

If you're tired of being a Keeper and watching over your minions, you can always try the Adventurer mode, in which you take the role of a brave explorer who will have to solve quests, explore dark and dangerous dungeons, battle fierce monsters and find precious loot to further improve your chances of survival.

The game is still in alpha stage, so many of its core mechanics are yet to be implemented, but if you're searching for a new retro-style rogulike title, you could definitely give KeeperRL a try.
