The US spent a lot of money on their Apollo missions back in the day, but every cent was worth it in order to put a man on the Moon and slingshot scientific development a few years into the future. However, only a handful of people ever got there and walked on the surface of our rocky companion, but a lot more would love the opportunity to do the same.
I Am Flying To The Moon is an indie production that allows you to have a bit of fun with a rocket and see whether you can reach the Moon using nothing but fuel and skill. The game is a tad more complex than that, on the other hand, because you also have the possibility to upgrade the rocket with various parts and try to achieve the best combination of aerodynamics and engine power.
Your biggest concern in the beginning is to avoid the variety of obstacles along the way, because hot air balloons, planes, zeppelins and a few other slow-moving crafts are crowding the skies. The wind can also work against you, at least until you manage to purchase the right upgrades and make the rocket aerodynamic enough to avoid being influenced by currents. Fuel is also important, especially when it comes to the total amount you can carry and the efficiency of the engine.
Every time you bump into something, the rocket suffers a certain amount of damage, depending on how hard you hit it and at what angle. The hull can only sustain so much damage before the entire construct explodes, but you can pick up repair kits along the way. Not only that, but additional fuel can be found as well, not to mention money and the occasional booster fuel.
From a technical point of view, the game is still a Flash production, but it’s purpose is not to dazzle anyone with great graphics anyway. Instead, the demanding gameplay and the constant challenge of flying the rocket should be enough to keep players occupied for a while. The upgrades play an important role in the equation as well, because it makes you feel like the entire thing has a purpose.
In the end, while I Am Flying To The Moon may be a bit annoying in certain circumstances, it’s still a fun game that can get you hooked from the first few minutes. Hence, if you are on the lookout for something and exciting at the same time, this can be one of the answers.
