Hellfire description
Having thrown several situations at you commanding a variety of shooting skills it saves the ultimate level for the heavy weapon
Hellfire is a shooter. Cast aside are the one-shot participants, possibly exhausted from your solo onslaught. Taking their place are the last-gasp defenders of the enemies fleet; gargantuan crafts boasting unprecedented firepower, unbreakable armour, and a will to crush you like nothing else seen before. If you haven't come to this final battleground boasting fully charged weaponry of your own, your death will be a swift one.
Hellfire is a side-scrolling shooter where you take the controls of a powerful spaceship and launch an assault on an alien world. The game requires you to navigate through caverns, metallic corridors, and open space while facing mobile and stationary enemies. Your ship is armed with a laser gun capable of firing in four directions.
Using the aim button, you can fire straight ahead, directly behind your ship, above and below your ship, or you can launch four lasers that move diagonally from your ship. When certain
enemies and inanimate objects explode, they release power-up icons. “S” icons boost your ship's shield power. “P” icons increase power to your ship's guns. “B” icons cause a powerful bomb to explode, eliminating all onscreen enemies.
Most of the alien enemies in Hellfire can only be destroyed after multiple hits with your laser gun. The number of hits depends on the number of “P” icons you have picked up before crashing your ship. Players start Hellfire with five ships. The game awards bonus ships when players hit scores of 70,000 and multiples of 200,000. When all ships are gone, the game is over. Two players can play Hellfire simultaneously on the same screen. One player's fire or ship position does not interfere with the other player.
What sets this shooter apart from many other horizontal space shooters is that you choose the direction of your shots at any time between forward, backward, upward+downward and 4-way diagonal. The 4-way diagonal shot is usually the most effective and makes for some interesting gameplay setups, such as stationary guns you can only reach by passing them (while avoiding their shots) and then placing yourself diagonally above them.
There is also a bomb to take out multiple enemies. The game has a standard set of pickups: P icons for powering the weapons, S icons for increasing ship speed, B icons for bombs, and score icons. There is not much of a plot in this game, you arrive by a dropship, only to face a large number of enemies at once, and you fly through each level trying to take everything out, R-Type style. Have fun playing.
