Ghoul Kid is a game about the ghost of a kid that tries to scare people to death in an abandoned house.
It’s not easy to say what kind of game Ghoul Kid really is, and that would normally be a good thing. The closest genre is tower defense, believe it or not, even if it doesn't look like it from the screenshots. I’m saying the closest because there are some differences and, after all, Ghoul Kid is a rather unique game with some interesting ideas.
That being said, we also have to mention the fact that Ghoul Kid is a completely free game. Given that the game has decent production value, it’s nice to see it released for free. That’s not something that happens all that often, especially not with this kind of titles. It could be the fact that it’s not very complex, and it doesn’t have a ton of content, but we can’t complain.
The players take the role of a ghost that used to be a kid. He’s haunting a house, and he can’t be seen by humans, but he can interact with various items. He’s goal, and yours is to scare the people who come into the house to death. Yes, you read that well. You need to scare them until they die.
The people who visit the house do so in waves. At first, you only have to scare to death a few little girls, and a couple of scares should be more than enough, but later you will get older people that are more resilient and that need multiple scares.
The biggest problem is that you also have a time, and you need to scare everyone as soon fast as possible. The trick is to get multiple people scared by a single interaction.
It’s not a difficult game, and it’s not without its faults. There isn’t much to do after you’ve used all the scare, the music is monotonous after you’ve heard it for minutes on end, and there isn’t some sort of finality to the game.
Ghoul Kid is not a bad game, but it lacks diversity. On the other hand, it’s a free game, so it doesn’t hurt to try it.
