Generative City

Generative City is a free run game that’s played from a first-person perspective and has you exploring a randomly created city to find the source of music. You can jump from one rooftop to another until you reach it, or you can speed through the streets and then find the quickest way to climb the building it’s located on.

Generative City looks like an unfinished level for an FPS, but the minimalistic design was the aim. Since each level is randomly created every time, you start it, the basic nature of the graphics makes it a whole lot easier for it to be generated.

The controls for the game are very simple and so is the gameplay. There are no complicated key combinations to use for grabbing onto ledges or sliding beneath obstacles. All you have to do is explore and follow the source of the sound. Generative City runs really smooth and from a visual point of view, it’s very good.

The enjoyment factor of the game depends on luck. Sine every level is randomly generated, you never know what you get. At times, the red cube, the source of the music, can be found on the tallest building or just laying on the ground.

Because of that, the difficulty of the game can greatly vary from one instance to the other. Not that that’s a bad thing, but at times it can be very easy or extremely hard to find what you’re looking for. The only real thing you can do to make the game consistently challenging is to play it without headphones or speakers.

Generative City isn’t a complex game, but it does have a nice visual style and relaxing gameplay. You’ll find yourself enjoying the rooftop speed runs and the randomness of it all.
