Frozen was a huge hit with all sorts of audiences, which is why the movie still has aftershocks even today. Video games were bound to follow after such a success, and they were obviously going to target the casual audience as well. Whether it’s dress up, match-three or simple platformers, the games are never very complicated, but they can be tons of fun.

Frozen Free Fall: Snowball Fight is a match-three game designed to be as fun and simple-to-play as possible, which is why it might only appeal to the casual crowds. There are no improvements on the original match-three formula, nor are there any new mechanics you have to get used to. However, you can still enjoy the ride and have fun with your favorite Frozen characters.

To begin with, it is worth noting that one of the defining components of the game is the multiplayer, which means that you can compete with your friends over the Internet. As the name clearly implies, the theme involves winter and snowballs, which translates into a very exciting multiplayer experience. On the other hand, the gameplay barely changes at all, so it’s not a huge leap in any way.

The goal of each level is to reach a certain high score, using a limited number of moves. If you do not hit the required score and your moves run out, you lose one of your lives. However, it shouldn’t be that difficult to make it work, as long as you remember to aim for the biggest combos. Special abilities are awarded by your companions as well, which allow you to quickly get rid of entire lines.

Speaking of which, the free-to-play label may be a bit misleading in this case, because the mini-transactions quickly enter the picture. As mentioned earlier, you lose a life when you fail to score enough points, but there is no “restart” button. Hence, you have to buy more lives to play more, which is obviously annoying and unfair in most cases. The game does not feature mouse support yet, so that is one more annoyance you have to live with.

When it’s all said and done, only you can decide whether Frozen Free Fall: Snowball Fight is worth the bother. The free-to-play model it sports might be too dishonest for most people to stomach, but others might be just fine with it. On the other hand, it’s disappointing that you have to deal with this problem in the first place.
