Collectible card games seem to be trending in the last few years, since more and more people are charmed by their mechanics. It may not be as exciting as an actual real-time strategy game, but the tactics you can come up with should make up for the lack of visual satisfaction. On top of that, everyone enjoys collecting stuff, especially if there’s a chance to receive an extra-rare item.

Forgotten Myths CCG does not look very different from your regular CCG at first, but you’ll soon acknowledge the fact that there are quite a few interesting quirks. Obviously, the main idea is the same, since you are basically collecting cards and building decks, but the way you use these decks is a bit different. Hence, it’s all about the actual combat and the mechanics that come into play once you sit down at the table.

You have multiple factions to choose from in the beginning, and they each come with different cards and a pre-built deck to help you get started. The cards may be common and pretty weak at first, but they should be enough to help you built the AI opponents, at least the first few ones. After that, you’ll quickly start earning better cards and the currency required to get them.

As you may already expect, the whole thing revolves around whether you have enough energy to play the cards in your hand or not. Unlike in most CCGs, on the other hand, you do not receive additional energy with every new turn unless you play a special card. This card has a random chance to be drawn from the deck, so you might say that luck has a pretty big influence as well. On top of that, you can acquire more energy than your opponent if you have better cards and you spent enough currency to gain them.

It’s not necessarily a pay-2-win situation, however, because you are still quite capable of earning currency by simply playing and winning. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to win after a point if you do not have powerful cards, so you may find yourself stuck in a loop. Even so, the combat is rewarding and very dynamic, not to mention volatile, given the fact that you have to take positioning into consideration as well.

All things being equal, Forgotten Myths CCG is definitely one of the best free card games out there, but it’s not perfect either. It’s only natural for developers to ask for money in exchange for their work, they just need to make sure players do not get frustrated by the time they are ready to bring out the cash.
