Many legends from around the world talk about magical places where wishes come true and everyone is happy, and there are many movies and video games on the subject as well. The first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game based its entire story on the wish granter from the Chernobyl NPP, and there are many other examples where the main character got to choose the fate of the entire world in the end.
Eternal Senia is a top-down role-playing game in which your main goal is to kill everything that stands in your way and make it to the next level. The developer tried to make the whole experience as simple and as straightforward as possible, and the finished result is actually quite enjoyable. However, simplicity can also be synonymous with boredom, at least if certain requirements are not met.
The story is pretty basic as well, in the sense that you probably won’t stumble into any major revelations along the way. Hence, it all starts when the main character’s sister goes into the Eternal Tower, where wishes supposedly come true. However, the person asking for the wish must exchange his humanity for the thing he or she desires, which is why the main character goes after her sister in order to rescue her before it’s too late.
There are no puzzles or lengthy dialog trees to go through, and the combat is as simple as it gets. In essence, you just have to run into the enemies and your character automatically deals and takes damage at the same time. It’s very difficult to die, although it gets tougher to manage on higher difficulty levels and when you are fighting bosses. Speaking of which, the boss fights are not bad either, but they are far from original.
The same goes for the graphics, which despite the fact that are original and not just default RPGMaker assets, they still look pretty basic. Not only that, but the level design is quite barren and impressive as well. On the other hand, it really doesn’t make a difference in this case, because the overall story and the fast-paced gameplay make up for the lack of actual content.
Even if Eternal Senia is not up to standards for hardcore gamers, it’s beautiful enough to captivate all sorts of players, regardless of whether you have experience with the genre or not. Hence, it’s the perfect way to get into ARPGs, or to lose a few hours if you are already a fan of the genre.
